Nhial’s family has been affected by conflict intergenerationally. He now lives in Kenya’s Kakuma refugee camp. Before that, he lived in Ethiopia where his father had settled after fleeing Sudan’s brutal civil war nearly half a century ago. Because of his family’s background, he has always cherished peace and loathed conflict.
He heads the Refugee Youth Peace Ambassadors, a refugee-led initiative in Kakuma which works towards empowering young people as peacebuilders, ethical leaders, and social entrepreneurs. He is also an Education Consultant for Kakuma Innovation Lab School which use technology to raise the bar of education in the camp.
Nhial embraces the power of social media to change how people think about refugees and build conversations on issues he cares about. He manages our social media platform and engages our community online.
